Roof Kits

The tank roof comes in a range of standard options to enable clients to make an informed choice relating to their budget, the liquid being stored, the application and the site location. Ranging from lightweight water permeable anti-algae covers through to heavy duty steel roofs designed to withstand hurricane force winds and snow-loading.

The main benefit of covering a water storage tank is protecting the quality of water stored from:

1. Contamination – Open-water tanks are susceptible to dust, debris and wildlife entering the water, compromising the quality and clarity of the stored water.
2. Algae Growth – Without a roof kit, sunlight can enter the tank and promote the growth of microorganisms such as algae. Algae causes odour emissions and negatively affects the overall quality of the water.
3. Insect Breeding – Open top water storage tanks serve as a breeding ground for insects like mosquitos who lay their eggs in stagnant water, leading to population surplus and spreading disease.
4. Evaporation – Uncovered water will evaporate during warm periods, concentrating minerals and impurities in the water and reducing its quality. Our Aqua-float cover can prevent up to 98% of evaporation.

Economic

In addition to protecting water quality, roof kits can reduce long term maintenance costs by safeguarding the tank structure and liner, as well as any connecting pipework and pumping equipment, from damage caused by debris/contaminants. Reducing the need for regular maintenance/cleaning of the tank plus any treatment of the water depending on application.

Furthermore, roof kits prevent unwanted access to the tanks installed at unsecure locations in which open-top water tanks would pose a potential safety risk to the public.

Accessibility

Most roof kits are designed with an inbuilt access hatch, allowing inspection, treatment and testing of the water stored, as well as the means to conduct any required maintenance of the tank itself. The access hatches are lockable, meaning only authorised personnel can safely access the water tank. Combining this feature with an external and/or internal ladder means each water tank can be protected from contaminants and unwanted access whilst ensuring accessibility.
