The premier material among rubber tank liners. The membrane is manufactured in the UK by our long-term supplier, and then the liners are fabricated in our factory in Billericay to suit the exact size and shape of the tank.
We carry stock of 1.00mm Butyl liner kits ranging from 22m3 to 93m3.
Why choose Butyl?
The Butyl rubber membrane is manufactured as a series of “plies” bonded together. This, in part, explains the very good impermeability of the membrane, which is impassible to even small molecules such as Helium. The membrane is also very dimensionally stable, it will not shrink or stretch during operation in a tank.
- Seams are vulcanised to produce 100% impermeable liners up to 1200m2 in area.
- Due to the flexibility of Butyl rubber, complex shapes can be produced such as steps, sumps and right-angled corners.
- A high elasticity of 350% stretch over original length, without damaging the material properties, allows the membrane to adjust to any base settlement or impacts without rupturing.
- Small damage and leaks can be repaired using cold-bonding tape on site.
What liquids can be stored in a Butyl Liner?
Butyl rubber, most commonly used for water storage tanks, is a very stable polymer and does not leach any chemicals into the contents of a tank. Other than water, Butyl liner kits are capable of storing:
- Alkalis
- Strong acids
- Natural oils & fats
- Alcohols
- Organic solutions
Variations
Butyl liner kits are usually manufactured from our 0.75mm or 1.00mm Butyl. However, we can manufacture Butyl liner kits from the following variations:
- plain rubbers of thicknesses between 0.75mm and 3.00mm
- cloth or scrim-reinforced Butyl rubber with tensile strengths of up to 2500MPa.
- WRAS certified Butyl rubber for drinking water applications.
Lifespan
The membrane is highly resistant to UV light. There are liners in operation today that have already had 40 years of useful life. We offer a 15-year warranty on all Butyl liner kits.
